All austenitic stainless steel balls are usually non-magnetic; after cold working, some magnetism may be obvious. The measurement of the permeability of materials in magnetic field is relative to the permeability μ r of materials in vacuum. If μ R is close to 1, the material has low permeability.

 

In our daily life, we often encounter a very wrong way to judge whether stainless steel is made by magnet or not.

 

Stainless steel is divided into austenitic stainless steel and martensitic stainless steel, among which 201, 304, 316 and 316L are austenitic stainless steel, without magnetism; while 420, 430, 440 and 440C are martensitic stainless steel, commonly known as stainless steel in our country, why stainless steel is called because it is magnetic. But it's not that the ability of magnetic antirust is not good, let alone that it's iron. Among them, 440C and 440C are the leaders in stainless steel, which are called special steel. They have strong anti rust and corrosion resistance, and high hardness. They are called stainless steel bearing steel, widely used in high-end manufacturing industry.

 

Therefore, we can not judge whether it is stainless steel simply by magnet suction or not. So the 440 stainless steel ball is of course made of stainless steel, and it is also a very good stainless steel material.

 

 

Physical properties of stainless steel of various materials:

 

SUS304: it has good corrosion resistance, heat resistance, low temperature strength and mechanical properties, good hot working performance such as stamping and bending, no heat treatment hardening phenomenon, no magnetism. It is widely used in household products (Class 1 and class 2 tableware), cabinets, indoor pipelines, water heaters, boilers, bathtubs, auto parts, medical appliances, building materials, chemicals, food industry, agriculture, ship parts.

 


SUS316: good corrosion resistance and high temperature strength, can be used under harsh conditions, good work hardening, non-magnetic. Suitable for sea water equipment, chemistry, dyestuff, papermaking, oxalic acid, fertilizer production equipment, photography, food industry, coastal facilities;

 


SUS316L: as Mo (2-3%) is added to the steel, the corrosion resistance and high temperature strength are excellent; the carbon content of SUS316L is lower than SUS316, so the intergranular corrosion resistance is better than SUS316; the high temperature creep strength is high. Can be used in harsh conditions, good work hardening, non-magnetic. Suitable for sea water equipment, chemistry, dyestuff, papermaking, oxalic acid, fertilizer production equipment, photography, food industry, coastal facilities

 


420 - "cutting tool grade" martensitic steel, similar to the earliest stainless steel such as Brinell high chromium steel. It is also used for surgical knives, which can be made very bright.

 

440 - high strength cutting tool steel, with slightly higher carbon content, can obtain higher yield strength after proper heat treatment, and the hardness can reach 58hrc, which is one of the hardest stainless steels. The most common application example is "razor blade". There are three common models: 440A, 440b, 440C, and 440f.
